Country Scene (sepia version) from the Hasegawa Night Scenes series. Also known as "Canal by Moonlight"
Size: Chuban. Approximately 10.25 x 7.5 inches.
Date: 1910s-60.
Publisher: Nishinomiya. stamp on verso.
Sealed by artist.
Medium: Japanese woodblock print.
This example bears the unusual "Nishinomiya Art" stamp on the back. The print was issued, adhered in this case, to a thick card like some very early Hasegawa Night scene editions. It is also unique in that, on the horizon, the structures on the left and the more articulated trees on the right differ from the more common version. For these reasons, I have indicated a broad date range to include the possibility that this edition is early.
Condition: Back of card is toned. One small point of foxing in sky.
