Panoramic View of the Daisensui Pond (Kiyosumi Garden, Mitsubishi Fukagawa Detached Villa)
One of eight views commissioned by the Iwasaki family (owners of Mitsubishi).
Date: 1920.
Size: Horizontal nagaban 18.75 x 7.5 inches.
Publisher: Watanabe Shozaburo.
Sealed Hasui and dated in the image. Not signed.
Kiyozumien (Kiyosumi Garden) noted in pencil at bottom margin.
Reference: Hotei #51
Medium: Japanese woodblock print.
Condition: Top back corners have tape residue that shows through slightly.
Note: "The Mitsubishi Company planned this set...as gifts for their domestic and foreign clients" (who visited the villa). - Hotei
It is not known whether these rarely seen 1920 designs were present in Watanabe's shop when it was destroyed by fire in the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake.
